Legends of Mahashivratri

There are various interesting legends related to the festival of Maha Shivaratri. According to one of the most popular legends, Shivaratri marks the wedding day of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Some believe that it was on the auspicious night of Shivaratri that Lord Shiva performed the ‘Tandava’, the dance of the primal creation, preservation and destruction. Another popular Shivratri legend stated in Linga Purana states that it was on Shivaratri that Lord Shiva manifested himself in the form of a Linga.

ॐ नमः शिवाय ॥ पशुपत्यष्टकम्‌॥ ध्यानम्‌। ध्यायेन्नित्यं महेशं रजतगिरिनिभं चारुचन्द्रावतंसं रत्नाकल्पोज्ज्वलाङ्गं परशुमृगवराभीतिहस्तं प्रसन्नम्‌। पद्मासीनं समन्तात्स्तुतममरगणैर्व्याघ्रकृत्तिं वसानं विश्वाद्यं विश्वबीजं निखिलभयहरं पञ्चवक्त्रं त्रिनेत्रम्‌॥
माघ कृष्ण चतुर्दशीको दिन मनाईने हिन्दू धर्वालम्वीहरुको महान पर्व महाशिवरात्रि पर्व २०१० फेब्रुअरी १२ तारिख शुक्रवार अर्थात माघ कृष्ण चतुर्दशीमा श्री पशुपतिनाथको श्रद्धा भक्तिपुर्वक पुजा आरधना गरी राष्ट्रिय चाडको रूपमा महाशिवरात्रि पर्व मनाईँदै छ ।
आरध्य देव भगवान पशुपतिनाथको आज दर्शन गर्नाले सुख, सवृद्धि र भक्ति प्राप्त हुने धार्मिक मान्यता रहेको छ । मानिसमा शिवत्वमो असल भावना जगाउन प्रेरणा दिने पर्व भएकाले पनि शिवरात्रि पर्वको विशेष महत्व रहिआएको छ ।
